Whole Foods Market & United Natural Foods, Inc Undermining Organic With “Natural” And “Eco-Label”

by Tom Alexander on July 1, 2009 · 2 comments

OCAbanner960bThe Organic Consumers Association claims Whole Foods Market and United Natural Foods, Inc. are undermining the decades long building up of the certified organic brand by labeling foods with the “natural” label or the “eco” label.
After four decades of hard work, the organic community has built up a $25 billion “certified organic” food and farming sector. This consumer-driven movement, under steady attack by the biotech and Big Food lobby, with little or no help from government, has managed to create a healthy and sustainable alternative to America’s disastrous, chemical and energy-intensive system of industrial agriculture.
The Organic Consumers Association has more information and a petition you can sign which will be sent to Whole Foods and United Natural Foods.

We don’t shop at Whole Foods or Fresh Market because they include regular products in with their specialty, which is organic stuff. That, and their markup is insane.

It is important that people know the labels that are actually organic and leave the other brands to rot in the supermarket. You can’t expect government to be lot of help.
