Water Gardens--How to Build Them Beautifully
Many businesses of the growing industry that never before featured water-garden items now display a series of tubs containing a wide range of water plants. Some even feature fish. Wholesale and retail nurseries are selling rigid and flexible liners, pumps, tubing, filters, and other water-garden accouterments. More than a few offer installation services, and as enticement, exhibit a water garden of their own making.
During the last decade, water gardening has been the fastest growing segment of the horticulture industry at an estimated annual increase of 20%. In Europe, home water gardens are commonplace. They have been building beautiful pools and ponds for centuries. Americans have the technical aspects mastered--we know how to build a pool that holds water, what size recirculating pump to use, and how to filter the water--but our idea of how a water garden should appear needs a serious overhaul.
