Though we live in a time of unprecedented agricultural research, so many growers continue to opt for tried and true varieties, especially when it comes to salad staples like lettuce, carrots and cucumbers. Why not experiment, grow, market (and of course, consume) some of the many new and interesting varieties that are available?
The capabilities to create new fruit and vegetable varieties with improved nutrition, taste and disease resistance are continually improving. And with an increasing number of plants being developed and patented by private industry, we are likely to see new material that will not be exclusive to certain growers.
