Basil Greenhouse That Couldn’t Stop Growing
A Modern Hydroponic Tale
Once upon a time, in the confident, leisurely days after the second world war, a group of economically spirited wizards conjured a playground for adults out of the Nevada desert. Games of monetary chance and skill, as well as luxurious, stately accommodations, lured visitors from far and wide to this gaming oasis in the desert. Las Vegas had been born.
Along with entertaining games of chance and shows of song and dance, the masses demanded a never-ending banquet of culinary delight. Considering the deserted surroundings, this meant a continual convoy of refrigerated trucks traveling from California through the blazing desert to Las Vegas. But the dazzling denizens of Las Vegas demanded superior quality and ultimate freshness. Shipping long distances definitely degrades culinary fare.
So growers began to control their environment in greenhouses and steer clear of soil, for, all told, there was little to be had in the desert. One of those enterprising soilless souls was Basil Bob. He planted some herbs and sold his bounty to the stores and hotels in the city. Now, it's pretty difficult to grow herbs in the desert, so Basil Bob knew he was onto a good thing. In response to demand, his greenhouse grew larger. He planted more basil, and the wizards of Las Vegas were very pleased, indeed. But still they cried: "More! More!" So Basil Bob's greenhouse grew even larger, and his basil crop grew accordingly, yet he still couldn't satisfy those wizards.
So Basil Bob decided to grow larger than he had ever grown before.
