The Power of Cooling Towers
Hot weather can make hydroponics difficult--both in temperate climates during high summer and year-round in the subtropics and tropics. Nutrient solutions absorbing ambient temperatures of 86?F (30?C) and higher can “cook” plant roots and severely reduce oxygenation that keeps aerobic, probiotic organisms happy in their work of suppressing root diseases. Traditionally, many salad and herb crops have been next to impossible to grow well in the tropics. Or, in temperate climates, these crops can become wilted and unsalable after a series of extremely hot days.
However, a former Australian hydroponic grower with an inventive mind has been working to greatly reduce the problems experienced in hot weather hydroponics.
