What Other Kids Are Doing

Bad Axe Intermediate School, Michigan
These third, fourth, and fifth graders from northeastern Michigan take a lot of pride in their work as hydroponic experimenters. Each of the three classrooms has documented their hydroponic progress with a short diary by each teacher, as well as artwork and photos of their ebb-and-flow systems. They've produced cherry tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, and beans. The classes created a friendly competition—called "The Great Bean Race"—and challenged each other to see who could produce the first beans and who could produce the highest yield.
