3099465573_4348186d02_mDeborah Romano, a 61 year old gardener and first time beekeeper, lives in Brooklyn. She also is a lawbreaker. Possessing a bee hive is illegal in New York City and that law put a damper on Ms. Romano’s plan to sell her honey at various farmers’ markets around the city. She had to pay a fine and remove her hive. Ms. Romano is not alone, as it is estimated that there are hundreds of other beekeepers around the city with hives on their rooftops and backyards. They are protesting the law at city hall.
