Is Vertical Farming the Answer to Feeding the Increase in Population of the Future?

verticallfarmSome estimates of the future predict up to 80% of the world population by the year 2050 will reside in metropolitan areas of the world.
Estimates also put the increase of the world population by three billion people by that time. An area larger than the country of Brazil will be needed to be added to the world’s current agricultural land base for farmers to grow the food needed to feed the increased population. But we could run out of productive farmland and the water to irrigate it.
Several groups think vertical urban farming in skyscrapers and on their roofs are the answer.
