Here We Go Again—Salmonella Flavored Green Onions

GreenOnionsHow many times does this have to happen before government and consumers realize industrial agriculture is the source of the problem and nowhere near the solution? Do we ever hear about salmonella tainted veggies from a local grower? I don’t. Do you?
Steinbeck Country Produce, Salinas, Calif., is recalling its iceless green onions after routine testing by the U.S. Department of Agriculture found a positive test for salmonella. Here is the Steinbeck Country Produce web site’s page on food safety.
Ocean Mist Farms voluntarily recalled their green onions too, as a “precaution.”
I guess those nasty salmonella green onions just slipped through the cracks… of what? Maybe the irrigation water got polluted by the overcrowded industrial pig farm next door? I suggest to check that for a start.

The midwest pumps fresh manure on fields as a nitrogen fertilizer. You know it is fertilizing season when it happens by the smell. I don’t blame them for trying to do it economically, although I can see how this would lead to contamination.

These were grown in Mexico, near the U.S. border where the motto is, “regulations, what regulations” or “we don’t need no stinkin’ regulations.”
