Corn Prices to Hit the US Ethanol Market Hard

2484240269_6206c70198_mThe headline could also read the opposite: Corn Prices to Hit the US Food Market Hard… It is insane that the biofuels industry has lobbied successfully to use a staple food, corn, as a source of alternative biofuel. All that does is increase the price of food AND biofuel.
There are common sense alternatives; namely hemp and algae, among others. Yet, as everything that has a dollar sign attached to it in this country, the lobbyists have a hold on the politicians where they can’t let go—the influence money to the politicians who make policy in this country in the form of campaign contributions.
In this report, corn as a biofuel has caused a food crisis. And in this report, corn is “oversold” as a green biofuel energy source. Maybe if enough people start starving to death, our energy policy in general, and our biofuel policy specifically, will have some basic common sense injected into it. I am not holding my breath…
