Growing Power, Inc. of Milwaukee and Chicago, in conjunction with the USDA Risk Management Agency Sustain Agriculture Research and Education, is presenting a series of commercial urban agriculture training program workshops. They're entitled "Growing Your Community Food System 'From the Ground Up."
The workshops run Friday through Sunday. Upcoming dates include: February 16-17, March 15-16, April 19-20 and May 10-11. The April and May Friday sessions include special training for the New Commercial Urban Agriculture Training Program participants and for the Multicultural Alliance Building through Dismantling Racism. Workshops are held at Growing Power's Community Food Center in Milwaukee.
'Growing Your Community Food System' is intensive, hands-on, training that offers diverse groups the opportunity to learn, plan, develop, operate, and sustain community food projects. Project participants leave the workshop with improved skills that they can take back into their communities and pass on to others. These workshops are for both rural and urban projects.
These workshops put organizations, projects, and food producers in touch with each other to help build collaborations and long-term, sustainable partnerships. Workshop topics include animal husbandry, aquaculture/aquaponics, beekeeping, community project design, ethnic marketing, living biological worm systems, vermiculture, composting, year-round greenhouse production, recordkeeping/accounting, mushroom growing, farm animal care, soapmaking and cheesemaking.
