A short glossary of common printing and design terms.

File Specifications

  • All ads are accepted electronically (no film) in CMYK-color, flattened (all fonts converted to outline and no placed images) PDF, TIF or PSD files at 300 dpi.
  • We do not accept native application layout files. If an ad is submitted past the materials deadline, you will be charged an hourly rate of $60 to make your ad press-ready.
  • Your ad must be at a resolution of 300 ppi or greater and in CMYK mode.
  • A minimum bleed of 1/8th inch on all sides is required on full page and spread ads. If a bleed is needed, but not provided, the ad will adjusted to fit the page.
  • All copy and logos on full page and spread ads must be restricted to the Live Area, an additional 1/4 inch inward on all sides. Ads which fail to meet these requirements may be reduced in size or result in cut-off copy/logos in the printing process.
  • Ads may be submitted via CD-ROM, DVD-ROM, or uploaded to our FTP site using an anonymous login. Contact the Art Director at (541) 757-8477 for instructions.
  • Ads submitted without proofs will be printed as is. Please submit a proof to avoid discrepancies between your digital file and output.
